What is Pokémon Unbound?
This is the only Rom presented by a young, resilient Pokefan, Skeli. So far, it’s available in two versions:
Main Game: This is the mainstream Game, full of challenges, puzzles, and a spellbinding story. After the Game, you can access another sideline of post-game content.
Battle Frontier Demo: This demo immediately gives you access to the battle engine with over 100 possible combinations. You can keep fighting your battles at Fair difficulty to Insane Difficulty Levels. Additionally, this mode includes Daily and monthly rewards with unlimited playtime.
Comparison With FireRed: You can relate it more to FireRed but with the addition of several towns such as Deserts and Tundra. The villains, “The Shadows,” are more fierce and lethal this time than Team Rocket.

Pokemon Unbound Features
This time, you get unlimited features, which are Called “Unbound.” These features include Auto-Run, DexNav, Daily Raids, Unlimited Bag Space, and more.
Custom Battle Engine: This Game has thoroughly upgraded FireRed up to Gen 8, including all the hot, famous Pokémon from Gen 1 to Gen 7, with a comprehensive set of their abilities and moves. This time, it resembles more of the Gen 8 TM system.
Missions Masterlist: A long list of missions ahead is called ‘Missions Master list’. It comprises 75 missions spiraling up from the easiest to the hardest ones.
Resume Playthrough: You can always resume your Playthrough with the several things carried over once you have gone through the Game.
Difficulty Modes: This time, the Game has introduced four difficulty modes: Casual (Vanilla), Difficult, Expert, and Insane. It has many challenges ahead for the fanboys.
Poké award: You get The Poke Awards according to the Trainer level.
Detailed Graphics: This time, the graphics extend to more polished aesthetics, such as custom animations ( for moves and cutscenes), vibrant colour palettes, and detailed tilesets, to give more life to the world of Boreo and outperform the official GBA (Game Boy Advance) games of FireRed and Emerald. What I like the most is the weather effects of snow or rain integrated into the gameplay, which are amazing. However, the brightness or colour intensity seems to be oversaturated, and I think it can be adjusted.
Character Customization: The thing that is lacking in classic GBA games is the lack of character customization. But now you can personalize your character with over 20 customization options regarding skin, hairstyle, outfits etc. You can win multiple side quests to unlock these outfits.
Daily Events: You can not get away with the stunning daily events after finishing the main story. The events in older Pokémon games such as Ruby or Sapphire were minimal, but the Unbound is just unbound. I highly recommend participating in Daily Trainer battles to get extra rewards and collect items from NPCs.
Minigames: Fed of fights? Try out some awesome minigames. Where previous versions were limited to conquests and game corner slots, minigames are the apt addition in Unbound. You can get entertaining games such as Dodrio racing, Rivia, and many games hidden in Battle Frontier.
Amazing Puzzles: The puzzles in Unbound are more intricate and adventurous than ever. Where Emerald and other games used to have simple strength-of-ice puzzles, Unbound has more complex sliding tiles challenges and switch-based mazes that add more depth to the mainstream Game. Out of 20+ unique puzzles, Void Gauntlet is my hot favorite. Again, you can win rare items and other Legendary Pokémons through these puzzles.
Unique Hidden Machines (HM) system: Previously, you might have felt the HM systems were inconvenient because they occupied a valuable move slot on any Pokémon. But this time, the HM system has been revamped, smooth, and enjoyable, as per my experience. With the following changes, you can build your team more creatively and enhance the pacing of your Game:
- Rather than teaching HMs your Pokémon, you can get key items such as replacing Rock Smash with Power Glove, Surf with Hiking Boots etc.
- Now no need to dedicate any of your Pokemon for HM Slave,
- You can instantly use the HM-equivalent key items in your inventory.
Post-Games: Besides main campaign battles, if you are still looking for hours of extra gameplay, then no worries. In Post-Games, You can freely rematch the more difficult gym leaders or hunt down over 75 legendary Pokémon. The Quests, like Regis Puzzle, will bring back your nostalgic feelings for the older stuff, but this time with unique mechanics.
Plenty of Soundtracks: In Unbound, you can discover 180+ original Soundtracks that perfectly match the diverse environments and intense battles. This way, you can amuse yourself with more indepthly remixes during encounters, such as the Legendary Battle theme, which is what I enjoy the most.
Physical/Special Split: Unbound integrated this amazing feature that was first introduced in Gen 4. It helps you create Pokémon move sets. You can categorize each move based on mechanics rather than type, such as all fighting moves are physical, whereas all water moves are special.
Mega Evolution: Unbound continues all the loved features of previous versions, such as Mega Evolution and Physical/Special Split. Each Pokémon can turn into its mega form during any battle.
X/Y Capture Experience: Normally, you won’t get any experience while catching a Pokémon. But in Unbound, you gain experience after catching a Pokémon and introducing Pokémon X/Y.
Unbound Nuzlock: In unbound Nuzlocke, there are 31 boss battles ahead that you need to win to be a champion in Borrious Region.

Normally, you can find the level of scaling keys in each trainer box. However, the “X’ level of your opposing trainers will always be with respect to your Lowest-level Pokémon in all difficulty levels: Vanilla, Difficult, Expert and Insane. Suppose you have Zubat and Bedum at (Lv. 20) and (Lv. 22). Following will be your opponent Pokémons with respect to your minimum level Pokémon which is Lv.20:
- Vanilla: Hiker Wayne’s Roggenrola Lv. 11, Drilbur Lv. 12
- Expert: Hiker Wayne’s Roggenrola Lv. 14, their Drilbur Lv. 15.
- Insane: Hiker Wayne’s Roggenrola Lv. 20, Drilbur Lv. 21.
Common Issues with Unbound
Below are most of the recurring bugs. If you encounter a bug that has not been mentioned before, you can report it to the official Discord channel.
- While playing unbound on Wii through vbaGX, we might have difficulty enabling the vbaGX setting.
- When fast-forwarding in Myboy Emulator, you might face lagging.
- Some amazing features in previous versions were discontinued in the latest one, such as the original FRLG graphics in v1.1.3.1 or v2.0.3.2, which have link trades on Poke Centre.
Suggestions: Adding a bit of animation to all the Pokémon during their battles will be a great addition!

My Experience
This Game blends all the good from Generation 1 to Generation 7. It collaborates many amazing things, such as all the Pokémon from Generation 1-7, that make the fans stick to it. The thing I really like about this Game is that playing it on 2x or 4x gives you a grinding experience. I think the Game has been developed so that people can not find any short ways to play, which makes it more meritorious and interesting.
Wrap Up
Having played multiple ROM games, Unbound is not as grindy as EK and unfair as Redical Red battle-wise. It’s just creative! That is its main strength. A new story, region, and unique noticeable additions distinguish it.
